A group of British wounded warriors from Mission Motorsport spent a week in North Carolina, hosted by the USO of North Carolina, getting a taste of American racing. Mission Motorsport is the official motorsports charity of the British armed forces and works to “aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by military operations by providing opportunities through motorsport”. The British visitors were joined by four American wounded warriors, including two who traveled to the United Kingdom in July to sample British motorsports.
In North Carolina, the combined group was welcomed by Governor McCrory and the British Consul General Jeremy Pilmore-Bedford at the Executive Mansion. Next up was the North Carolina Museum of Art for the “Porsche By Design” exhibit. They then traveled to Virginia International Raceway before heading down to Charlotte. There, a British and American veteran were selected to serve as Grand Marshals for the Bank of America 500. After the race, the group visited UNC-Charlotte’s Motorpsports Engineering program. Before returning home, the group toured Joe Gibbs Racing and the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
